Welcome to the ‘artistic’ section. As an arts writer & critic (of 30 years standing) and a lifelong lover of art in its many forms, I believe that the arts are neither an elitist luxury nor bohemian indulgence. True, they can be, but the human capacity for art making and storytelling is not only a remarkable tribal and individual phenomenon but a crucial social bonding/cohesion mechanism. The human animal is the arty animal. Besides which, art is such great fun.
